WORKING VISIT OF MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF MALAYSIA, DATO’ SAIFUDDIN ABDULLAH TO THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF BANGLADESH

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah will undertake a Working Visit to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh from 6 to 8 July 2019. This will be his first visit to Bangladesh since assuming the post of Foreign Minister.
During the visit, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah is scheduled to meet his counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen. Both sides are expected to discuss a wide-ranging bilateral issues, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interests.
The Foreign Minister is also scheduled to pay a visit to the Malaysian Field Hospital and to several Rohingya refugees’ camps in Cox’s Bazar.
This visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen the existing warm and friendly relations between both countries. It will also further boost the bilateral cooperation as well as to reaffirm Malaysia’s continued support to the Government of Bangladesh in providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya refugees.
Malaysia and Bangladesh also have substantial trade and investment relations with a two way trade in 2018 valued at USD2.37 billion, a significant increase of 35.4% from USD1.75 billion in 2017. From January to April 2019, trade increased by 2.7% to USD793.1 million as compared to USD771.5 million for the same period in 2018. Among South Asian countries, Bangladesh is Malaysia’s 2nd largest trading partner.
